Mohamed Abdi

Founder & Executive Director

Mohamed is the founder and executive director of RIO since 2018. He has more than 18 years of experience in leadership and organizational management. Mohamed started his career as an employment services coordinator where he serviced immigrants and low-income families, he is an expert on geopolitical stability and conflict management resolution in Eastern Africa and Sub-Saharan. Mohamed was a former Board president of the East Africa Community in Colorado. He has comprehensive knowledge of the best governance and political science practices for communities in Africa and the Middle East. He was honored to receive an outstanding community award from the Global African Immigrant Refugee Association USA (GAIRA). Mohamed earned his master’s in political science at the University of Colorado Denver and his Bachelor of Science with a double major In Political Science & International Studies at the University of Colorado Denver. Mohamed received human rights certification training from the U.S Institute of Diplomacy & Human Rights.

Ibrahim M.

Vice President

Ibrahim joined RIO in 2019. He has more than 15 years of experience in non-profit organizations. Ibrahim is a subject matter expert (SME) in refugee resettlement programs, particularly asylum seekers, human trafficking, and unaccompanied minor Children. In addition to a broad base of community services experience, he has worked three different counties in the State of Minnesota at the Department of Human Services where he served the public in different capacities, and also worked for the federal government at the Department of social security administration. Ibrahim is an operational leader who is responsible for planning, organization, and direction of the organization’s operations and programs. He earned his Master of Business administration and Management in 2021 from Concordia University St Paul following a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare and Human Services Management from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Art in Public Health and a minor in Political Science from the University of Colorado Denver.

Mohamoud Ahmed

Grants Coordinator

Mohamoud joined RIO at the end of 2022. He worked in both public and non-profit
organizations. Mohamoud worked for Hennepin county as human Services representative
serving the public, he also worked for Save The Children at both national and international levels
with proven records of building partnerships, resource mobilization, grants, and finance
coordination. In addition to his work, he has a track record of managing organizational grants
and financial reporting. Mohamoud earned his Master’s of Public and non-profit
administration in 2021 from Metro State University in St Paul Minnesota. following a
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from East Africa University. He is a certified Non –
profit professional.

Nimo Ahmed

Volunteer Coordinator

Nimo joined RIO in 2021, she started as a youth program, woman, and children coordinator. Nimo had been counseling women on issues of FGM. Besides RIO, Nimo worked with a service employee International Union Vice President of the Childcare Chapter. Nimo has managed different private companies in financial management. She is a volunteer for the Somali Community Services of Seattle. Nimo is a successful businesswoman active community leader who runs her own business for more than 15 years. Nimo has a bachelor’s degree in business and finance from Seattle Central College.
