Meet the amazing RIO’s Management Team
Mohamed is the founder and executive director of RIO since 2018. He has more than 18 years of experience in leadership and organizational management. Mohamed started his career as an employment services coordinator where he serviced immigrants and low-income families, he is an expert on geopolitical stability and conflict management resolution in Eastern Africa and Sub-Saharan. Mohamed was a former Board president of the East Africa Community in Colorado. He has comprehensive knowledge of the best governance and political science practices for communities in Africa and the Middle East. He was honored to receive an outstanding community award from the Global African Immigrant Refugee Association USA (GAIRA). Mohamed earned his master’s in political science at the University of Colorado Denver and his Bachelor of Science with a double major In Political Science & International Studies at the University of Colorado Denver. Mohamed received human rights certification training from the U.S Institute of Diplomacy & Human Rights.
Ibrahim joined RIO in 2021. He has more than 15 years of experience in non-profit organizations. Ibrahim is a subject matter expert (SME) in refugee resettlement programs, particularly asylum seekers, human trafficking, and unaccompanied minor Children. In addition to a broad base of community services experience, he has worked three different counties in the State of Minnesota at the Department of Human Services where he served the public in different capacities, and also worked for the federal government at the Department of social security administration. Ibrahim is an operational leader who is responsible for planning, organization, and direction of the organization’s operations and programs. He earned his Master of Business administration and Management in 2021 from Concordia University St Paul following a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare and Human Services Management from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Art in Public Health and a minor in Political Science from the University of Colorado Denver.

Alex Mukungu Nasiyo
Project coordinator
Alex Mukungu Nasiyo is an accomplished social research consultant, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) specialist, and project coordinator with over 15 years of experience. His expertise spans multiple sectors, including private, non-profit, and government organizations, where he has contributed to sustainable development initiatives focused on poverty alleviation, governance, environmental sustainability, and renewable energy.
Alex has a strong track record in designing and conducting social research, data analysis, and developing comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems.
His professional skill set includes writing high-quality reports and proposals, crafting data collection tools, and executing both qualitative and quantitative analysis. He is proficient in SPSS, R, Nvivo, and Microsoft Office, with a deep understanding of the M&E frameworks and methodologies.
Having worked with diverse stakeholders, from UN agencies to private sector firms and civil society organizations, Alex excels in stakeholder engagement, project management, and securing funding for projects. His work in renewable energy projects and his role as a Solar Project Coordinator demonstrate his commitment to sustainable energy solutions and his ability to drive impactful change in the sector.
Alex holds a Master of Arts in Population Studies and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Project Monitoring and Evaluation at Kenyatta University. Throughout his career, he has contributed to a variety of research publications and has actively participated in numerous international conferences.
Known for his strong analytical skills, leadership, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team, Alex continues to seek opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the field of development. His multilingual abilities (English, Swahili, and Luhya) further enhance his effectiveness in diverse cultural and professional settings.

William Tolbert
Impact Lead
William Tolbert has more than 20 years of inclusive development experience as a practitioner within the civil society, government and private sector sphere. During this time, his core focal areas included disability, women, and youth inclusive development. He also champions for social protection of all persons.
As a development practitioner and consultant with in-depth experience in integrated programmes (Education, WaSH, Livelihoods, Child Protection and DRR) and ASAL programming.
William brings a strategic approach to the developmental space that respects the local context that is aligned to the program objectives and activities, stakeholders’ requirements and community interest.In his work, William has been able to support various development project in Kenya and Somalia using best social inclusion practices. His competency encompasses stakeholder mobilization, facilitation, adult participatory methodologies, curriculum development, capacity building, project cycle management, research methodology, data management, monitoring, evaluation & knowledge management, resource mobilization, grants management, budget management, team building and results-based reporting. In regards to disability, William was part of the team that worked on the UNCRPD toolkit for Africa under UNDESA/. His previous fellowship interest with Accountability Lab and Kettering Foundation focused on advancing social inclusion. This year 2025, William is undertaking a fellowship project on inclusive digital democracy with Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP) Fellowship Program. Daiman Dakane
Gender Equality & Social Inclusion (GESI)
Daiman Dakane is a dedicated gender and human rights advocate with a strong passion for promoting social justice, peacebuilding, and inclusive development. As a trained paralegal and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) expert, Daiman brings a wealth of experience in advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), youth and women empowerment, and grassroots governance.
Over the years, Daiman has worked with numerous organizations including ActionAid Kenya, Kesho Alliance, Inuka Success, and Womankind Kenya, leading impactful advocacy programs focused on marginalized communities such as refugees, women, and grassroots youth. She has spearheaded gender-responsive initiatives, conducted field-based research, and facilitated training for community leaders and stakeholders across Kenya.
Daiman is a creative activist who uses storytelling, poetry, and digital media to advocate for gender justice, climate action, and human rights. Through his work with Activista / Ecovista and KNCHR, she has led gender-focused climate campaigns, monitored elections, and engaged in national policy forums. Recognized by PACJA for climate advocacy, she also led a flood awareness campaign with the Red Cross. Daiman is fluent in English, Somali, and Swahili, with strong skills in digital advocacy, data analysis, and community engagement.
Daiman champions inclusive, community-driven development, striving to bridge the gap between governance and grassroots voices to ensure no one is left behind.
Nimo joined RIO in 2021, she started as a youth program, woman, and children coordinator. Nimo had been counseling women on issues of FGM. Besides RIO, Nimo worked with a service employee International Union Vice President of the Childcare Chapter. Nimo has managed different private companies in financial management. She is a volunteer for the Somali Community Services of Seattle. Nimo is a successful businesswoman active community leader who runs her own business for more than 15 years. Nimo has a bachelor’s degree in business and finance from Seattle Central College.
